Wedding Flowers at Matfen Hall

It was a delight to work with Jennifer and Michael for their wedding flowers at Matfen Hall last month.

Wanting to use flowers to compliment Jennifer’s incredibly gorgeous and delicately detailed bridal gown we used blown Ivory Avalanche Roses, hand tied with wisps of Baby’s Breath. It worked so well. Jennifer was a most beautiful bride. Bridesmaids held smaller versions of the Brides bouquet. Jennifer had her bridal bouquet tied with a wide fine ivory lace and the bridesmaids with navy blue organza to match their gorgeous navy dresses. Buttonholes and corsages were big blown Ivory Avalanche Roses with small sprigs of Baby’s Breath. Beautiful.

For the reception tables we wound deep green ivy around and up silver candelabra and tied in more Ivory Avalanche Roses. For the top table we created a beautiful big table arrangement that was a special statement, but not so large that it obscured the guests from seeing one another.

We arranged the candelabra on site and the staff at Matfen were wonderful with us, giving us space to prepare and arrange. It took us almost 2 hours to arrange the candelabra as there were a lot of roses to tie in. Our time and effort paid off as the final result was stunning. The reception room was so gorgeous, I got a lump in my throat just looking at it all quiet and grand, waiting for the wedding party to arrive and fill the space with love and happiness and celebration.

There is something so special and humbling about being a wedding florist. To be able to be a part of a couple’s big day is very special. To be a part of the feeling of anticipation and joy of a couple’s future together and to feel you added something beautiful to their celebration is wonderful.

Jennifer sent us a lovely email after her wedding, thanking us so much for our work and how our flowers made her day so special. We were so pleased to have been involved. It was a real honour to have worked with such a lovely couple.

So here’s to Jennifer and Michael. May you have a beautiful future together, filled with love and happiness. And thank you!

Wedding Flowers, Sublime Style and a forgotten mascara

I am so glad we agreed to help Vanessa with her wedding flowers last month. We had initially turned her down as we already had a wedding on the same day but thankfully she charmed us into agreeing to help. It was just a small wedding after all. At Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle. It was a real delight to work with her and create for her just what she was after.

We styled the flowers based on the colour of Vanessa’s dress which was from Harvey Nichols. It was beautiful. Tasteful and classic. Ivory with a beautiful textured dusky pink waist. She wanted a small bouquet with dusky pink and cream colours, hand-tied with a natural and loose look to it. Kevin’s favourite flower is white Calla Lily so Vanessa asked if there was a way we could incorporate a few of these into the bouquet.

She gave us a lot of creative license and a lot of trust to deliver what she was after.

In her bouquet we used Ivory and Sweet Avalanche Roses. We managed to source some petite and beautiful pure white Calla Lilies which sat so nicely in with the roses and tied in some small sprigs of pinky Waxflower and Gypsophelia and a little Ruscus greenery.

For Neeve we made a small Floral Pomander in dusky pink, using delicate Chrysanthemums, pale pink Spray Roses and Waxflower held with a dusky pink organza ribbon tie. Vanessa also wanted something pretty for Neeve to wear in her hair so we created a small fresh floral arrangement in dusky and pale pinks and whites using a selection of the flowers used in her Floral Pomander.

Buttonholes and Corsages were Sweet Avalanche Roses with foliage and Gypsophelia.

We had total creative say on the table arrangement where we used Sweet Avalanche and Ivory Avalanche Roses, Spray Roses, Large white Calla Lilies, Gypsophelia, Waxflower and Ammi Majus.

Meeting Vanessa on her wedding day was a real pleasure. We delivered to her bridal room in Jesmond Dene House. I got to see her dress in real life (where I swooned slightly, as it was so sublime with such style!) Vanessa was gorgeous, naturally beautiful with amazing eyes. Seeing how all of our discussions and emails prior to the day had resulted in real harmony was so satisfying. Colours, textures and dimensions all perfect. Vanessa was happy, we were happy and as you can see by the photograph, they make a beautiful couple and a sweet and handsome family. Vanessa had forgotten her mascara but as you can see, that didn’t matter.
